Trump arrives in Europe on Saturday. “It will be a special day”

Newly elected US President Donald Trump has announced that he will travel to Paris to attend the reopening of the Notre-Dame Cathedral.

Trump, who won the presidential election in early November and will take office in January, praised French President Emmanuel Macron in a post on the social media platform Truth Social on Monday.

“It is an honor to announce that I will travel to Paris on Saturday to attend the reopening of the beautiful and historic Notre Dame Cathedral, which has been fully restored after a devastating fire five years ago. President Emmanuel Macron has done a fantastic job. ensuring that Notre Dame is restored to its full glory and more. It will be a very special day for everyone!” – Trump wrote.

Reuters reports that this will be the president-elect’s first foreign trip since winning the election. Trump will arrive in France at a time when there is a political crisis in the country and the government of Michel Barnier is in danger of collapse.

Fire in Notre-Dame Cathedral

On the evening of April 15, 2019, the world came to a standstill as flames engulfed Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. The 96-metre-high spire and unique wooden roof of 1,300 medieval oak beams – known as ‘the forest’ – were completely destroyed. Despite serious damage, the foundation, the facade and many art treasures were preserved.

The exact cause of the fire has not yet been definitively determined. Renovations were underway at the time of the fire, so employee error or negligence may have played a role.

Shortly after the disaster, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that the cathedral would be rebuilt within five years. Thanks to a global wave of solidarity, more than €850 million in donations was raised, and the tireless work of renovation experts, engineers and craftsmen, this goal was achieved.

Parties in Paris with the participation of Macron, Trump and Duda, among others

The inauguration celebrations of the post-fire renovated cathedral are scheduled for December 7 and 8. Participants include: Heads of State and Government, including the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda.

Saturday’s events in the French capital will have a secular character. A day later, the first Holy Mass will be celebrated in Notre-Dame, celebrated by Archbishop of Paris Laurent Ulrich.
