A newborn baby just one month old died this morning at Al-Aqsa hospital due to the cold. This was reported by the Palestinian agency Wafa, which cites medical sources. Ali al-Batran, this is the boy’s name, was the twin of Jumaa al-Batran, who died yesterday from the cold in a tent in Deir el-Balah, in the center of the Gaza Strip. He is the sixth newborn to die from the cold in a week. According to sources cited by the agency, maternal malnutrition has led to the emergence of new cases of the disease among children, worsening the health situation. The director of Medical Assistance in Gaza, Muhammad Abu Afash, said that children die every day due to the severe cold and the lack of basic necessities such as food, drinks and milk, tents, blankets and clothing.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, spoke about the situation in Gaza in an interview with the Emirati newspaper ‘The National’: «I hope that in the coming days there will be positive news, with a potential exchange of prisoners and hostages that could lead to to a ceasefire. I work every day to ensure a truce. I am convinced that Hamas is almost destroyed militarily. I have been urging Israel to change its approach to Gaza for months. Any progress towards peace requires a multinational security force and Italy stands ready to contribute to peace.”
