They had just officially gotten engaged and posted a video on YouTube to announce their wedding, but unfortunately they couldn’t make their dream come true. A couple, along with their partners, were found dead in two separate rooms in their holiday villa in Vietnam.
Tragedy
Briton Greta Marie Otteson, 33, was with South African Els Arno Quinton, 36, at the time of the tragedy over the Christmas period. The two allegedly drank wine at the Hoi An Silverbell villa in Hoi An city in central Quang Nam province before their deaths. The bodies of the two were found dead in separate rooms by resort staff who arrived to clean the resort on December 26, but the news has only now spread to the British media.
Greta, originally from Wales, lay lifeless in her bed in room 101. Officers then entered Arno’s locked room and found him dead, too. “There were no signs of looting at the scene. The victims’ personal belongings and phones were untouched,” a spokesman for Quang Nam provincial police said. Officers said there were no signs of struggle, such as scratches or physical trauma, on the bodies. Police collected several empty wine bottles from the room for further analysis.
Couple
Local media reported that Greta and Arno had been staying together in the villa since July 4 and that the couple got engaged in December. Travel enthusiast Greta previously lived in Dubai and backpacked across Asia before recently settling in Vietnam. He was a digital strategist who ran a social media and content marketing agency called Not Sorry Socials. Arno was a bartender, musician and broadcaster.
Their deaths came just days after the two posted a video on YouTube to announce their engagement. The video showed Greta in a white dress and the two holding hands as they walked through Hoi An, Vietnam. “This footage was filled with so many emotions and reminded us how powerful the union of two souls can be. We will miss you, great souls,” video company Red Eye Studios wrote in the clip’s caption.
