Migrants disappeared from the forests near the border. Lukashenko plays a lot

The migrants were removed from the border area. They were on the Belarusian side.

– Migrants staying in Belarus in the zone near the border with Poland were taken to Russia – said Colonel Andrzej Stasiulewicz of the Border Guard. – At one point we saw migrants being brought from the border zone to Russia. Lukashenko could be concerned about peace in the country before the presidential elections, he added.

In the first two weeks of January this year. 86 people tried to cross the border, an average of six people per day. This is much less than the average of last year, when more than 80 attempted border crossings were registered every day. Border Guard statistics show that although the number of border crossings increased significantly last year (from 25,701 in 2023 to 29,616), an opposite trend has been observed since the last week of September 2024, according to Border Guard data.

Deputy Interior Minister Maciej Duszczyk, in turn, emphasized that the weather has an important influence on reducing the number of crossings. – However, we can suspect that Lukashenko, as he prepares for the presidential elections, wants to bring order to the country – Duszczyk noted. The politician pointed out that the presence of migrants is raising concerns in villages on the Polish-Belarusian border, which could discourage people from voting.

Lukashenko will win again

Presidential elections will be held in Belarus on January 26. “This is a fiction, not a real electoral process, conducted in an atmosphere of terror. No alternative candidates or observers will be allowed,” Sviatalana Tsikhanouskaya, the leader of the Belarusian opposition, wrote on the X platform when the election date was announced. The previous 2020 presidential election, which was considered fraudulent, led to mass protests in our eastern neighbors. Alexander Lukashenko has ruled Belarus continuously since 1994.
