Israel disrupts Easter. This is how the papal nuncio was treated

The Israeli police and the army make Christians difficult to participate in religious ceremonies. In this way the papal nuncio and the remaining believers were impossible to admit to the basilica of the Holy Graf.

The incident took place in Oost -Jerusalem on the Holy Saturday. According to the Palestinian news agency Wafa, Israeli police officers put control stations on the road that leads to the church in the old city. Travelers were checked by ID cards, while they refused to enter many of the believers.

Social media users complain about the activities of Israelically uniformed and write directly about the provocation of the police. “One of the uniformed stepped on the anointing stone in the temple, where the body of Jesus had to be prepared at funeral. When one of the believers noticed him, the other police officer removed him from the basilica,” says Kresy.pl.

Raw limitations in Jerusalem

At the same time, Israel radically reduced the freedom of movement in Jerusalem. According to the website, every Palestinian on the western Jordoever outside the city must obtain a military permit to introduce it. However, it is difficult to get permission to come in and the Israeli authorities publish them in limited quantities. From October 7, 2023, the outbreak of war with Hamas, the acquisition of it has become almost impossible.

“This Easter holiday has announced the Israeli government that it has issued 6,000 permits, although 50,000 Christians live in the Western coast outside East – Jerusalem – mainly Catholics or Orthodox Opposition Israeli media, however, in fact only 4,000 were published and often only a few members of every family says.

Exhaustive pilgrim trip

Permits are only valid for a week and Palestinian pilgrims do not allow Jerusalem to stay in Jerusalem, which means that they have to take an exhaustive return trip to the West Bank by bus or taxi, which have to exceed the many control points of the Israeli army, that the participation in the parties is limited.

Few, who succeeded in reaching the old city, have met elevated police violence in recent years. In April 2023, the Palestinian Christian believers and foreign pilgrims were beaten by Israeli officers when they tried to reach the Basilica of the Holy Grave.

Although these restrictions are justified for security reasons, many Christians consider them a different way in which the state imposes their dominance.
