US troops leave $7 billion worth of equipment in Afghanistan –

With the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan, $7.1 billion in military equipment remained in the country. That’s according to CNN in a report from the Department of Defense at the request of Congress.

Since 2005, US$18.6 billion worth of military equipment has been sent to Afghanistan from the United States. The mission ended last summer. Not so long ago, power in the country had been taken over by the Taliban.

According to the report, the abandoned equipment includes 78 aircraft that were disabled before take-off. It will also contain more than 40,000 military vehicles, more than 300,000 cannons and nearly 10,000 aircraft ammunition.

While the equipment is now in the hands of fierce Taliban leaders, the Pentagon has no intention of recovering or destroying it. The report points out that much of the equipment requires specialized information that will no longer be available in Afghanistan after the departure of US troops.
