British Virgin Islands PM arrested for drug trafficking in Miami

The Prime Minister of the British Virgin Islands was arrested during a police raid in Miami, US. US officials reported that the manager of the archipelago’s ports in the Caribbean Sea has also been arrested.

Prime Minister Andrew Fahie and port manager Oleanvine Maynard were arrested by US DEA drug enforcement officers at an airport near Miami. They allegedly tried to smuggle cocaine and launder income.

According to the US indictment, the two men meet alleged Mexican drug traffickers at the airport. They would donate more than $700,000 to smuggle cocaine from Colombia to the United States through a port in the Virgin Islands. In reality, they fell in love with undercover DEA agents.

The Governor of the Virgin Islands urged residents to remain calm. “I understand that this news came as a huge shock to everyone.”
