city bikes

Another recent survey found that most Dutch e-bikes are electric city bikes, accounting for three quarters of the market, followed by hybrids with a 17% share.

Speed pedals follow by far, i.e. e-bikes that can travel 45 km/h, with a market share of 2%. Electric cargo bikes and electric mountain bikes also have a share of 2%. Electric folding bicycles and tricycles represent only 1% of the market.

commute to work

According to research agency Multiscope, 4% of Dutch e-bikes are rented out by an employer, their own company or private rental. This means that there are about 200,000 rental e-bikes in the Netherlands. This number is growing rapidly, as only 2% of e-bikes will be rented out in 2020.

A recent survey by GfK showed that the Dutch were more likely to buy an e-bike for commuting last year, but recreational use was still the main reason for purchase.
