When will this fee come?

It will take some time. The company needs at least a week or two to look at how people can be compensated. And depending on the chosen solution, it also takes a while before people actually receive compensation. Minister Van Gennip of Social Affairs says that if you cannot pay the bills, it is best to contact the municipality for help.

What options are on the table?

The company wants to make up for its lowest revenue this year to increase its purchasing power. All options are on the table. The lowest winners already receive an extra compensation of 200 euros, this amount can be increased quite easily. The cabinet can freeze the price of energy: you then determine the price for the consumer. This is a very costly measure as it also compensates for people who don’t need it much.

A temporarily reduced VAT rate may apply to energy. Increasing housing support could be a highly targeted measure to help those most affected pay the bills. It is not yet known which measure or combination of measures the cabinet will choose.
