Ukrainian nurse who lost her legs in explosion marries in hospital

Balandina told about the harrowing moment of the explosion.

“I was only able to yell at him” [a su pareja]: ‘Honey, look!’” the woman said.

“(My partner) looked at me as the mine exploded. I fell face down to the ground. There was an extreme noise in my head. Then I turned and started to take off my clothes. I thought it would be easier to breathe because there wasn’t enough air,” added the mother of two.

Viktor Vasyliv, Oksana’s romantic partner, escaped unharmed thanks to the fact that he walked a few meters behind her. At the time of the explosion, he helped her and took her to a hospital.

After being treated at several medical centers, health workers decided to amputate her lower limb and four fingers on her left hand.

Oksana confessed that undergoing the operations was a severe emotional blow.

“I didn’t want to live that life, I have two kids. I didn’t want them to see me like this. I didn’t want to be a burden to anyone in my family,” she said.
