Ukrainian and Russian families arrive in Tijuana to ask for US support.

families of Russia and Ukraine who have seen their lives laid bare by the war between their countries, continually flock to the Mexican border city of Tijuana in large numbers to seek political asylum in the United States.

Mexican authorities of the National Institute for Migration (INM) confirmed that they have seen an increase in the arrival of people from these countries to Tijuana of up to 20 people per day since the invasion began in February last year.

Claudia Pérez, a Mexican migration agent, revealed that most of them: immigrants of Russian descent, but now more families are starting to come from Ukraine.

“They arrive and ask for their legal residence in MexicoWe offer them shelter, but they don’t want them, they stay in hotels and move on their own,” the official said.
