200 escaped prisoners caught in Ecuador riots

Ecuadorian police said they had arrested 200 inmates who escaped from a prison in Ecuador during the riots. At least 44 people were killed in clashes between rival gangs on Monday.

The group was arrested within 24 hours of their escape. Of the 220 prisoners who managed to escape the chaos, 20 are still in prison. The government offered a $3,000 reward for information leading to their arrest. The army was deployed to search for the fugitives.

A fight broke out Monday between Los Lobos and R7 gangs at the Bellavista prison in the city of Santo Domingo de los Colorados, about 80 kilometers north of the capital Quito. Video footage captured after the riots shows bloody and mutilated corpses scattered throughout the prison complex’s common areas and corridors. You also see mattresses on fire.
