Red Cross sets up tent in Ter Apel for emergency shelter

The Red Cross also says it is ready to take people to emergency shelters elsewhere in the country. The charity said it is working with the Council for Refugees and UNICEF on the emergency reception initiative.

alternative places

In Heerenveen, 100 emergency reception centers have been realized for asylum seekers who no longer have a place in the overcrowded reception center Ter Apel. A spokesperson for the Center for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) says that the refugees were brought to Heerenveen by means of transports organized by the Red Cross.

According to the spokesperson, the Groningen security zone announced early in the evening that it had found emergency shelter for refugees in a “neighboring area”. According to the spokesman, the security zone was able to “respond to the request of the cabinet” by finding the reception area.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Eric van der Burg (Asylum) made an appeal to intervene in the crisis because of the crowds in Ter Apel. In crisis relief, people are taken care of in, for example, gyms.
