Finland walk to the final entrance to the Atlantic Alliance finding a consensus among the authorities, a hypothesis that Russia sees as a threat that does not contribute to security in Europe and that Europe itself NATO want to benefit quickly.
Both the President of Finland, Sauli Niinistoas prime minister sanna marintoday made the historic decision to support accession to NATO, breaking with more than eight decades of non-alignment.
“Finland must apply without delay to join NATO. We hope that in the coming days the steps still needed at the national level to make this decision will be taken,” the two leaders said in a joint statement.
According to Niinistö and Marin, membership in NATO – of which it is an associated country but not a member – would strengthen Finland’s security and the Nordic country would in turn Military alliance.
