Syria reports dead in Israeli airstrike

Syrian state media reported that five people, including a civilian, were killed in the Israeli airstrike on Syria. Seven people are said to have been injured. The Israeli side did not respond to the reports.

The missiles landed near Masyaf in the west of the country, state news agency SANA said. Some are said to have been shot down by Syrian air defenses. Syrians say the missiles caused wildfires and property damage, but it was not clear exactly what was hit.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors the situation in Syria from the UK and draws on local sources, reported that four soldiers, including a lieutenant, were killed. It was reported that the Israelis were targeting the weapons depots and command centers of the Iranian militias.

The Israeli military, as usual, did not respond to the information. Israel has carried out hundreds of such attacks on targets in Syria in recent years, but says almost nothing about them. In general, Israel has repeatedly stated that such attacks in Syria target Iran-backed militias such as Hezbollah.
