‘Abuse of power and intimidation’ leads to split of European faction D66

This is one of the reasons why the head of the delegation, Sophie in ‘t Veld and Rafaela, have gone their separate ways, sources say.

of the party

Three of Rafaela’s former 33-year-old employees have registered with the D66 integrity committee, according to the conclusion of the NRC based on secret documents. They continued with their complaints. According to the newspaper, Rafaela does not agree with the result and threatens to leave the party.

Tomorrow’s issue will also be raised when D66 talks to members about how it is dealing with issues such as the #MeToo incident in which the prominent party Van Drimmelen was involved.

no cooperation

According to insiders, Rafaela’s difficult relationship with some of her employees also caused a rift between her and In ‘t Veld. Sophie in ‘t Veld helped Rafaela regain the preferential votes in the European Parliament in 2019, but the two were barely living together at the time.

Rafaela has now officially ended their partnership. As a result, for example, the two can no longer share staff and one employee had to leave.

Answer D66

In response to RTL Nieuws, D66 says it appreciates a safe, pleasant and fair working environment. “It also means that members and employees must be able to hold each other accountable for unacceptable behavior and have the courage to do so. If necessary, as has happened several times with the European delegation, the council takes the initiative to find a solution.”

The party says that people who feel unsafe or unheard of can report to the D66 Integrity Commission of Inquiry. “It is investigating and advising the National Council on a possible solution. The National Council then decides on appropriate measures.”

They also point out that the committee’s work is strictly internal and solution-oriented. “We therefore take very seriously that the report, or parts of it, are shared with NRC editors.”
