Erdogan criticizes Scandinavian countries for supporting Kurdish parties. Turkey considers these parties to be terrorist organisations. “We made this point because it is a national security issue for Turkey,” said İbrahim Kalın, Erdogan’s top foreign policy adviser.
PKK hard approach
Kalin told Reuters news agency that Turkey, which has been a NATO member for 70 years, wants to negotiate with Finland and Sweden and take a tough stance against “terrorist activity”, especially in Stockholm.
Erdogan’s adviser explains that the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), classified as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and the EU, is mainly engaged in fundraising and recruitment in Sweden. He said the two countries should no longer allow “all activities, organizations and individuals of the PKK”. According to him, “100% of our population is very unhappy with the presence of the PKK in Europe”.
