The Dutch priest, journalist and professor Titus Brandsma will be canonized on Sunday. Brandsma, who resisted the Nazis during World War II and was murdered in Dachau in 1942, was therefore commemorated as a martyr in 1985. However, it takes a miracle recognized by the Vatican to become a saint.
Installed last year, this miracle is related to the recovery of American priest and Father Michael Driscoll.
In 2004 he was diagnosed with metastatic skin cancer. If he recovered, the disease was expected to return within a few years. This has not happened so far and the Vatican sees the hand of Titus Brandsma in this.

Michael Driscoll, now 80, said he first heard of Titus Brandsma in high school over the phone from Florida. “I was trained there by a Dutch father who knew Brandsma. He told us that Brandsma dared to stand up to the Nazis. Later, when I became a priest and a father, I studied him more.”
That is why it was logical for Driscoll to ask Brandsma for help when he became ill in 2004: “I prayed through his intercession for my recovery. A large group of people joined me thanks to an appeal in the magazine Diocesan. He prayed for the intercession of Titus Brandsma.”
