Olympic sprint champion Lamont Marcell Jacobs will make his long-awaited return to the 100m next week. It will take place at an athletics convention in Savona, Italy. Jacobs chose it “heartily” for the competition on the Italian Riviera, the organizers reported. Where he ran under 10 seconds in the 100 meters for the first time last year, was the distance he won in Tokyo with a stunning Olympic title.
Since then, Jacobs has not run a single 100 meters. He was due to return to Nairobi in the short sprint last week but was hospitalized due to stomach and intestinal problems. Six weeks ago he became European champion in the 60 meters indoor in Belgrade.
Jacobs will meet his two compatriots, Lorenzo Patta and Fausto Desalu, in Savona, where he won the gold medal in the 4×100 meters in Tokyo last summer.
