What can you expect today?

  • Tonight is the final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Turin. A total of 25 actions are taking part. Dutch entry S10 eleventh. The show can be seen on NPO1 from 9 p.m.
  • Local residents and environmentalists are departing simultaneously from six airports across the country, including Schiphol. Activists say they are protesting the increasing distress and pollution caused by air traffic.
  • The first round of the play-offs for promotion to the Eredivisie continues with the return of ADO Den Haag-NAC Breda and Excelsior-Roda JC. ADO Breda drew 2-1, Excelsior and Roda Rotterdam played 2-2.

What did you miss?

Trade unions FNV and AOb are asking for one million dollars in financing from the company for people with long-term corona complaints. Otherwise, they will go to court to hold the state accountable. FNV and AOb believe that little has been done to protect healthcare and training staff in times of corona. They want the company to put 150 million euros into the fund and they want a system that is comparable to that of asbestos victims.

  • Youth care is critical of the reforms proposed by the cabinet: the Dutch youth care and trade union FNV fear that the government will make its own contribution to the well-being of young people. They describe it as unacceptable and discriminatory.
  • Corona spreads in North Korea: 21 dead, hundreds of thousands of patients: It was not determined whether all patients had corona, because there was almost no testing capacity. North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has declared a state of emergency and the country has been quarantined.
  • Syria reported casualties in Israeli airstrikes: Missiles have landed in the west of the country, according to the Syrian state news agency. It is unknown what exactly was affected. Missiles could be aimed at weapons depots and command centers of Iranian militias. Five people are said to have died.

A man was arrested in Italy this week for riding up Rome’s famous Spanish Steps. The footage shows a Maserati driver descending the stairs at the top. He was arrested at Milan airport while returning the rental car. The man is accused of damaging cultural heritage. The Spanish Steps in Rome date back to the 18th century and are a World Heritage Site.
