FC Twente had a successful season. The team of coach Ron Jans celebrated the victory over Feyenoord in the last round in De Kuip: 2-1.
Before the match FC Twente already had confidence in a fourth Eredivisie ranking that would place them for the preliminary round of the Conference League. The season is not over for Feyenoord, which finished third. The club will face AS Roma in the final of the third UEFA competition on 25 May.
Gernot Trauner and Reiss Nelson were missing at Feyenoord. Both players have minor hamstring injuries. Coach Arne Slot did not want to take any risks with them in the run-up to the Conference League final. Tyrell Malacia was also missing. The intention is to train again for the left back next week.
Alireza Jahanbakhsh replaced Nelson and defenders Ramon Hendriks and Marcus Pedersen also kicked off. Feyenoord was defensively defenseless without Trauner and Malacia.
FC Twente’s goal was opened in the 27th minute by Dimitrios Limnios. Gijs Smal scored the second goal of the visitors from Enschede 10 minutes later. Ricky van Wolfswinkel set both goals. Feyenoord got no further than Cyriles Dessers’ goal in the 68th minute of the second half.
