Jeugdhulp Nederland and the trade union FNV Jeugdhulp criticize the reforms announced by State Secretary Van Ooijen in a letter to the House of Representatives. Earlier in the day, the Minister of Foreign Affairs concluded that market forces are not good in youth care and transfer to municipalities.
The government recognizes that more money is being spent on care for young people than ever before, but the results do not show this.
Recently, there have been discussions between charities for young people, municipalities, professionals, client organizations and the office. However, these five parties could not agree on measures to control costs and improve maintenance. One of the biggest problems was the discount of more than 500 million euros that municipalities had to apply.
Contribution
The government will now implement these cuts, but that does not allay the concerns of the sector. In a response, Jeugdzorg Nederland says: “The State Secretary does not indicate in his letter how the cabinet wants to realize the cutbacks in youth care. That is why the introduction of the own contribution is still on the table,” he writes.
According to the organization, any personal contribution for customers is unacceptable and, moreover, discriminatory. “In this way, the bill ends up with people who need this care and they have to deal with an extra threshold.” FNV Youth Care also strongly opposes this. Organizations will submit a petition against their contribution on Tuesday.

Due to government intervention, the care of children and young people with complex problems such as anorexia or severe depression is once again being organized nationally instead of municipally. And measures to protect the youth, if they are from Van Ooijen, will be the responsibility of the regional security teams.
In his letter, the State Secretary points out that the increase in light care is at the expense of complex care. FNV Youth Care wants to get rid of the image that this light care is often not necessary. “This is an unfounded political framework,” says Maaike van der Aar, national director of FNV. It has never been investigated,” he says. “It is good that we are talking about what should and should not be youth care, but that does not mean that milder care is not necessary.”
Youth Care Netherlands wants to intensify special care for children. According to Jeugdzorg Nederland, the youth care that the State Secretary wishes to coordinate regionally can be better organized at national level.
