Ukrainian winners are optimistic: ‘Song contest in Kiev next year’

Due to the war in Ukraine, the big question is whether the 67th Song Contest can be held in the country next year. Chairman Zelensky is optimistic, as is the winning Ukrainian band, the Kalush Orchestra.

He believes that the festival should take place in Ukraine in 2023, preferably in Kiev. “We look forward to seeing everyone in the Eurovision Song Contest next year for a reunited and happy Ukraine,” the group said at a press conference after the final. Ukraine has been participating in the Eurovision Song Contest since 2003 and has won it three times.

“Every victory means a lot to Ukraine right now,” said leader Oleh Psiuk. “We are here to show that Ukrainian culture and music are very much alive, even though they are under attack in our homeland at the same time.”

It is not yet clear what will happen to the musicians themselves. ‘We’ll be back in two days. What we will do is not yet clear because we have never experienced winning the Eurovision Song Contest. But like other Ukrainians, I am ready to fight. †
