The murder suspect of the Geldermalsen family died in a German hospital after attempting suicide. The 40-year-old was found in critical condition in his cell in Germany on Thursday evening.
The Public Prosecution Service does not say how it is possible that he committed suicide. Despite his death, the criminal investigation against him will continue for a while.
He is suspected of murdering his 38-year-old girlfriend or ex-girlfriend and his 6-year-old son. Both men were found dead at their home in Geldermalsen on Monday morning. Rescue workers responded to a fire report and found two victims dead at home.
The man was found in his car in Germany from Monday to Tuesday. The suspect appeared in court on Wednesday in Paderborn, in the province of North Rhine-Westphalia, where he was held in a cell until he surrendered to the Netherlands. No further information has been released on the identity of the man.
