Groups of Belgian cyclists hit by car in Brabant and Zeeland

In Brabant and Zeeland, groups of Belgian cyclists were hit by motorists this morning. In Bavel, near Breda, the driver drove on after the shock. Two cyclists fell; The 72-year-old man was hospitalized with broken bones, scratches and bruises. The other cyclist suffered minor injuries.

According to the police, sixteen Belgian cyclists ride on the road and not on the adjacent bicycle path. The driver of a black Dutch Volkswagen Up wanted to overtake the group. While overtaking, the driver probably collided with two cyclists. The police are investigating whether there was intent, the Belgians say.

A group of Belgian cyclists was also injured during the Return in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. Three people were injured, including a man from Knokke-Heist, who had to be hospitalized for treatment.

The car overturned. Police say the 19-year-old driver had too much to drink. The man was twice as drunk as the legal limit for a novice driver. He had to go to the police station. His car was badly damaged but not injured.
