the chairman of FinlandSauli Niinistö, and the Prime Minister of Sweden, Magdalena Andersson, asked Turkey this Wednesday not to veto their access to the NATO, a process Ankara is viewing with suspicion amid the Scandinavian countries’ concerns over the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“We are open to any concerns Turkey has regarding our (NATO) membership,” Niinistö said in a joint appearance on the White House with United States President Joe Biden.
“We expect a rapid ratification process by the members of the NATO and we are in dialogue with all of them, including Turkey,” Andersson said.
Both leaders met this Wednesday at the White House with Biden expressing his “strong support” for Scandinavians’ applications to join the Atlantic Alliance, as these countries “meet all the requirements” to join.
