Municipalities received many reports about corona measures. Corona tickets and the obligation to wear face masks lead to complaints from people who feel discriminated against. The researchers say that 31% of all reports sent to municipalities relate to “illegal” or “other” discrimination grounds, a clear increase compared to previous years.
These are people who have not been vaccinated because of a personal belief that is not protected by law. This also applies to people who refuse to wear a mask for non-medical reasons and are therefore not admitted to hospital.
A small part of the reports to municipalities concerns discrimination on the basis of disability, chronic illness or age discrimination. The Institute for Human Rights and the National Ombudsman also received numerous complaints about the corona measures. The National Ombudsman received 321 discrimination complaints from governments; that is more than double the number of complaints.

The police registered more incidents in 2021 than a year ago. But as in previous years, it was mainly related to ethnicity (42%) and sexual orientation (32%). The registrations of discrimination on the basis of a disability have increased due to corona measures, not wanting or being able to wear a face mask has increased the limitation.
