Sweden and Finland at NATO summit in Spain –

Sweden and Finland will attend the NATO summit to be held in Madrid on June 28-30. This was announced by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.

After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Northern European countries want to join NATO. They recently submitted an official application for membership.

Turkey is the only NATO member to oppose their application. One of the main objections, according to President Erdogan, is that the two countries grant asylum to people who, in the eyes of Turkey, are terrorists. They are members of the Kurdish terrorist organization PKK and followers of the cleric Gülen.

Ankara delegation

Finnish Foreign Minister announced The World Economic Forum has announced that Finland and Sweden will send a delegation to Ankara to discuss NATO membership with the Turkish government. Turkey has confirmed that this meeting will take place tomorrow.

Minister Haavistö said: “We understand that Turkey is concerned about its own security in relation to terrorism. We believe these issues can be resolved.” said.

NATO chief Stoltenberg feels the same way. “We need to talk to Turkey and try to allay their concerns. I’m sure it will work.”
