The US Department of Justice announced on Sunday that it will investigate the police response to the shooting at a school in Uvalde, Texas, which killed 19 children and two teachers last Tuesday.
In a statement, Justice Department spokesman Anthony Coley announced the investigation, the results of which will be made public and opened at the request of Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin, after the police’s actions have been harshly questioned by its apparent slowness.
As stated by the US government, the purpose of the investigation is to obtain an independent version of the response from law enforcement and each of their actions on the day of May 24, when the massacre occurred.
In addition, it is expected that the conclusions reached can be used to identify problems and update action protocols for future recordings.
