ADO Den Haag is ashamed and wants to ‘severely punish’ rebels

Club management, which hopes to identify the culprits from the footage, said: “What should have mattered was a double disappointment, not just on the pitch, but especially off the pitch,” he says. “On behalf of ADO Den Haag, we are deeply ashamed of what happened.”

The return to the promotion play-off final of the Eredivisie had to be temporarily suspended half an hour after home fans fired fireworks onto the field. ADO Den Haag took a 3-0 lead in regular time, requiring extra time. Fifteen minutes later than planned, it could not start, because a large number of home team fans were nearby. Referee Danny Makkelie only wanted to start extra time when everyone was back in the stands. He remained restless on the pitch during the extra half hour and penalty shootout.
