Nepalese rescue teams will continue their search tomorrow for the plane that crashed in Nepal this morning. The army supporting the search said darkness and bad weather forced rescuers to temporarily halt the search. “The search will continue tomorrow through the air and on the ground,” the army spokesman said.
The Twin Otter flight with 22 people took off from Pokhara this morning and set course for Jomsom. It is a fifteen-minute flight that is mainly used by tourists and pilgrims. There is a famous Vishnu Temple in Jomsom.
Firework
Shortly after takeoff, contact with the aircraft was lost. Eyewitnesses told Nepalese television that they saw a burning plane at the foot of Manapathi Mountain. Rescuers are trying to reach the area, but it’s difficult. The environment is not welcoming and the weather is bad.
Authorities are unsure of the plane’s location. “The fire could have been caused by villagers or shepherds, it could have been anything,” said a spokesman for Tara Air, the company responsible for the crash.
On board were sixteen Nepalese, two Germans and four Indians. The cause of the accident is unknown.
