A “Flying French” crashes with a flying plank –

Inventor and daredevil Franky Zapata collapsed with invention flying board† During a demonstration of his invention in Biscarrosse, France, he lost control of the hoverboard and crashed.

Footage from the short flight shows the 40-year-old Frenchman circling at a height of about 15 meters. Then it suddenly lost its height and crashed into a small lake.

Some passers-by filmed the short flight:

Zapata was quickly pulled from the water by rescuers. He was conscious and not seriously injured, but was hospitalized for observation.

It is not yet known what happened during takeoff. Other flyboard flights taking place this weekend have been canceled.

Zapata made his flyboard himself because his color blindness prevented him from becoming a helicopter pilot. Thanks to four microturbines, the device can reach a speed of about 150 kilometers per hour. It caused a sensation when it flew over the military parade on the Champs-Élysées during the July 14 celebrations in Paris in 2019.

In the same year, on his second attempt, he managed to get on a plane and cross the English Channel from France to Great Britain. He covered 35 kilometers in 22 minutes.

For this flight, Zapata had to fly at a maximum height of 20 meters and an average speed of 140 kilometers per hour, which he said was a challenge. “When you stand on such a board and fly very fast, there is an enormous pressure on your body. It’s like your muscles are on fire.”
