An 11-year-old deaf boy in India was rescued from a well he fell 4 days ago. Rescue workers managed to rescue the child from the 24-meter-deep pit after 110 hours.
Last Friday things got worse in the village of Pihrid, in the northeast of the country. Rahul Sahu was playing near his house when he fell into the well. Rescuers immediately put an oxygen tube through the very narrow hole so he could continue to breathe. A total of 500 people, including members of the police and military, took part in the rescue operation.
A shaft parallel to the well was excavated with cranes. This well was later connected to the well. Cameras monitored Rahul’s condition, but his deafness made it difficult to communicate with him.

Of course the last hours were critical; Police said the boy barely moved and made only a few hand gestures when he was fed. When the water started to rise, rescuers had to proceed with caution due to the risk of collapse.
Last night I finally got Rahul out of the den. She was placed on a stretcher and lined up by rescuers. Shortly afterwards, he was hospitalized. His condition is stable. He got a skin infection from being in the water for four days.
