The onset of a new wave of corona cases is slowly beginning to translate into an increase in hospital occupancy. Today there are 550 corona patients in Dutch hospitals, 22 of whom are in intensive care.
This brings the hospital occupancy rate back to the end of May. The number of confirmed corona cases has been rising again for several weeks and the occupancy rate in hospitals has been rising for a week. There are currently about 50% more corona patients in hospital than last week.
The increase is not yet visible in CI. The number of corona patients there has fluctuated between 20 and 30 patients since the beginning of June.

RIVM determined last week that a summer wave of corona infections is on the way. This is partly due to the emergence of two new omicron sub-variants that seem to evade the built-up immunity more easily. However, they don’t look any more nauseous than the first variety of omycron.
Last week, RIVM did not dare to estimate how big the wave would be and how it would reflect on the number of hospital admissions.
