It is still not clear why some 3,400 more people (not corona patients) died than normal at the end of 2021. The Dutch Statistics and RIVM investigated this so-called excess mortality rate, but found no answer.
In December last year MP Omtzigt submitted a motion calling for such an investigation, since the excess death rate during the third corona wave was much higher than the death rate from covid-19 reported by RIVM.
In the third wave, which started towards the end of the summer, about 11,000 more people than usual died. More than 3000 did not die from corona. “Other causes of death may have contributed to the additional deaths,” the researchers write. They say more research is needed to answer the question.
It is clear that corona vaccines are not causing more deaths. According to the researchers, there are no indications of an increased mortality risk in the Dutch population in the weeks after vaccination against Covid-19.
Vaccinated people also died less than from other diseases
RIVM has even established that vaccinated people have a smaller chance of dying from causes other than Covid-19 within the first eight weeks after vaccination. It is not known whether this is due to the vaccine. According to the RIVM, people who have been vaccinated may have had better health earlier than people who did not receive the injection.
Doctors said the vaccine may have contributed to the deaths in just 162 of a total of 166,000 death certificates, but this has never been definitively proven.
High vaccine effectiveness
In the study, RIVM points out that the alleged effectiveness of the vaccine is very high. In the first two months after the second corona crisis, the chance of dying from Covid-19 was over 90% lower than for unvaccinated people. Protection then dropped to about 80% after seven months. Protection in the elderly decreased to about 60% during this period. But the recall resulted in an increase in protection.
It was previously clear that 30,000 more people would die in 2020 and 2021 than expected. In those years, a total of 340,000 people died, of whom 40,000 from the effects of Covid-19. The corona pandemic has resulted in three so-called “excessive waves of death”.
