Ukraine, Russian missiles against civilians: 17 dead in Odessa. Stoltenberg: more heavy weapons in Kiev

Russian missiles targeting civilians in Odessa, where at least 17 deaths are accounted for in a double attack on an apartment building. It took place on the night of the 128th day of the war in the Belgorod-Dnestrovsky district of the Odessa region. The bombing also resulted in the wounding of thirty other people, including three children, pulled from the rubble along with four adults. The attack was carried out by an invasion force fighter-bomber that fired an air-to-ground missile at a nine-story building. The same aircraft, according to several witnesses, also dropped a second bomb that would have hit a recreation center in the same district. 14 people died in the first attack, three in the next.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky commented on the Russian abandonment of Serpents Island, a strategic point in the Neero Sea. The liberation of Cobra Island by the Ukrainian army “significantly changes the situation in the Black Sea in the conflict with Russia,” Zelensky said in a video message. “This does not guarantee security, it does not guarantee that the enemy will not return. But this already considerably limits the action of the occupiers. Step by step we are going to push them out of our sea, our land, our sky”, said the chief of State.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, in an interview with German TV ZDF, commented on the outcome of the Madrid summit and announced new aid. Ukraine needs to get “more heavy weapons, more modern equipment, which needs to be delivered faster,” he said. The main objective of the military aid, explained Stoltenberg, is “to strengthen Ukraine’s position in view of future peace negotiations with Russia”.
