The Netherlands will say goodbye to the remaining corona measures next week. For now, however, suggestions remain. If you test positive, you should still isolate and quarantine yourself if you’ve been in close contact with an infected person. This does not apply if you belong to one of the exception groups, for example because you have a callback request.
Experts think we won’t be saying goodbye to testing and isolation anytime soon. Marion Koopmans, professor of virology and UNWTO member, points out that we are in the transition phase and that we must follow events closely. “We don’t know how this will continue, corona is not (yet) part of normal winter viruses. How long will we continue to see waves of contamination and how serious are they?” During this transition period, she believes it is important to comply with tests for complaints and to stay at home in case you become infected.
Koopmans also wonders if we might have to be stricter with other viruses. “Before the corona epidemic, we continued to work with flu symptoms. But does it still make sense? Who do you love if you keep walking around with the flu and infecting vulnerable people? I won’t talk about it, but this discussion should be about me.”

UMC Utrecht microbiologist and UNWTO member Marco Bonten says quarantine is still necessary to contain the virus. According to him, the infection can occur before someone shows any symptoms. “Here’s what’s behind the recommendation.”
“If you are a roommate of someone with corona, there is a good chance that you are already infected and therefore contagious,” continues Bonten. Anyone who comes out later can infect others. That is why quarantine is a good way to slow down the spread of the corona, says Bonten. “And also to ensure that the most vulnerable people do not come into contact with the virus.”
He expects that the current pollution peak will decrease quickly, especially given the beautiful weather that is ahead. Then there will be fewer infections and fewer people will be affected by the quarantine measure.
The quarantine measure creates barriers in certain sectors, such as companies that organize events. Fred Boot, producer of the musical Soldaat van Oranje, says that performances have been canceled due to the positive corona test of the employees:
