On Tuesday, the Maryland Supreme Court postponed the state primary elections to July 19, creating a three-week delay following a legal challenge to the recently reconstructed legislatures.
The primary elections were scheduled for June 28. The court extended the application deadline until April 15.
The court action on Tuesday is the second case in recent weeks to affect the first. Last month, the court postponed the deadline for the then governor to apply for the June primary from February 22 to March 22.
Decision, Chief Justice Joseph M. Getty, the court is considering four objections to the revised law. Opponents claim that the maps violate the state constitution and that the maps are messy.
