Anousheh Ashuri was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2019 for Israeli espionage and illegal financial practices.

The two were released after Britain repaid its €475 million debt to Iran. A British negotiating team is in Iran to discuss the duo’s release, and Iran has demanded full payment of the debt as a strong demand.

London did not approve the payment but said it was under discussion and a priority for the British government. Iranian state media reported that the money had been transferred.
