A 23-year-old American has been charged with kidnapping after pretending to be a nurse and then infiltrating a hospital where she tried to steal a newborn and then escape. Jesenea Mironof Moreno Valley, Calif., was arrested Friday after attempting to kidnap a child from Riverside University Health System Medical Center the day before, July 14, at around 10:30 am, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.
She reportedly disguised herself as a nurse to gain access to the ward and then “went into a patient’s hospital room and identified herself as a nurse”. The woman then tried to take the baby away, but was confronted by hospital staff, who contacted security. It is unknown if Miron was targeting a specific child or if he was chosen at random. When the police arrived, she had already fled anyway.
She was arrested at her home on Weber Street, according to police, and other “objects of evidentiary value” were found inside the facility.
According to court documents obtained by Fox 11, the 23-year-old told authorities it would be “easy” to steal a baby and at her home, officers found ultrasounds from two other hospitals. He was taken to the Robert Presley Detention Center on $1 million bond. He is due to appear in court on Tuesday.
Investigations are ongoing as authorities try to determine how the young woman managed to enter the ward without raising any alarms.
