Joe Biden infected with Covid-19 and in treatment with Paxlovid

The President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, is infected with Covid-19. The White House reports that the US head of state tested positive on Thursday morning.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre clarifies that Joe Biden is fully vaccinated, with two boosters, and “is experiencing very mild symptoms.” In a statement, it is also reported that he has already started taking Paxlovid, Pfizer’s antiviral drug.

Following guidelines from the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the US leader will self-isolate in the White House and “continue to perform his full duties during this period.”

“He has been in contact with members of the White House staff by phone this morning and will participate in his planned meetings at the White House this morning by phone and Zoom from home,” the statement said.

The White House protocol, which goes beyond the CDC, ensures that Biden “will continue to work in isolation until his tests are negative” and will only return to face-to-face work when that happens.

The White House also explains that it will report daily on the state of health of the US president.

“The White House Medical Unit will brief all close contacts of the President today. [quinta-feira]including members of Congress and members of the press who interacted with the president during yesterday’s trip. [quarta-feira]”, ensures the official residence of the president of the United States.

Joe Biden had a negative result on Tuesday, when he took the last test for Covid-19.
