Royal family, the fortune of 211 million euros hidden in 33 secret wills

The wills of members of the UK’s Royal Family have been protected by secrecy provisions for over a century. A privilege compared to British citizens who by law must make them public. Also according to the law, since 1800, only the monarch of England could enjoy this exception, which also affected other members of the Royal Family.

An investigation published in The Guardian highlights the size of the estate handed over to heirs by a dozen members of the royal family. It is a treasure worth more than £180 million, around €211 million, that has been hidden in 33 secret wills since the time of Edward VII, the eldest son of Queen Victoria who reigned after her.
