White House: Joe Biden ‘breathes well’ and has normal oxygen levels

Ashish Jha, the U.S. government’s pandemic response coordinator, said on Thursday that President Joe Biden is “breathing well” and his oxygen levels are normal after testing positive for Covid-19.

During the daily press conference, White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre specified that the US head of state’s mild symptoms are nasal congestion, fatigue and “the occasional dry cough that started last night.”

Karine Jean-Pierre and Ashish Jha were asked how Joe Biden was infected but both avoided answering, with the president’s spokeswoman saying it’s something “that doesn’t matter”.

Ashish Jha added that after speaking with the president’s doctor, Biden was given his first cycle of the oral antiviral drug Paxlovid.

It is not known at this time which variant of the Covid-19 the official became infected with, but the coordinator of the response to the US government pandemic pointed out that laboratory results should be available within a week.

Both the first lady, Jill Biden, and the vice president, Kamala Harris, tested negative for Covid-19 on Thursday.

US President Joe Biden wrote on the social network Twitter that “he is doing well” after testing positive for Covid-19.

Joe Biden later posted a video of him appearing on a White House balcony in a navy suit, making sure he’s okay and explaining the symptoms he’s feeling.

“Hello everyone. I assume you heard, this morning I tested positive for covid-19,” the Democrat emphasized in the video, where he recalls being vaccinated with two doses and two boosters.

“I appreciate your questions and concerns, but I’m fine. I work hard and will continue to work. In the meantime, thank you for your concern, keep believing, everything will be fine,” he added.

According to the White House, Biden has “very mild symptoms” and will be isolated “while continuing to fulfill all of his duties,” which is to conduct video and conference calls.

Still, Biden had to cancel a trip to Pennsylvania, where he would propose an increase in funding for the US police, worth about $37 billion. (about $35 billion) to fight crime, including $13 billion (about $11 billion) to hire and train 100,000 new officers over the next five years.

Biden, 79, is fully vaccinated and received two doses of Pfizer’s novel coronavirus vaccine shortly before taking office in January last year, also a first booster in September 2021 and an additional dose on March 30 this year.
