The Scottish government has recorded over 18,000 new coronavirus cases, with another 23 deaths reported overnight.
According to the latest Scottish government data, 18,124 new cases of Covid-19 have been registered.
This figure includes cases identified using a first lateral flow device or a positive PCR test.
It should be noted that the data announced today (March 18, 2022) covers more than 24 hours (from 2pm on March 16 and March 17) due to technical problems at the beginning of the week.
In the past 28 days, another 23 deaths have been reported in one person who tested positive for the virus.
These are Lateral Flow Tests (LFDs) reported via the Scottish Government’s LFD Portal between 6 January 2022 and today. Public Health Scotland estimates that this update adds 8 historic deaths to the new death toll reported today.
Thus, the death toll since the start of the pandemic is 11,098.
Separate figures produced by the National Records of Scotland (NRS), which records the number of deaths from Covid on a death certificate, show the figure of 13,563 as of March 13.
The NRS data includes deaths in which “suspicious” or “probable” Covid-19 appeared on death certificates.
A total of 31 people, of which 2,050 hospitalized, who have recently contracted the virus in general, are currently being treated in intensive care with newly confirmed Covid-19.
While the number of the first vaccines was 4,441,944, a second dose of the vaccine was administered to 4,173,678 people.
3,473,650 received a third dose or booster vaccine.
