Protesters have been blocking the largest border crossing between the European Union and Belarus since this morning. Near the Polish city of Kukuryki, just in front of the large Belarusian city of Brest, hundreds of activists line the road with Polish and Ukrainian flags. In protest, they want to cut an important artery to transport goods to Russia.
By noon, hundreds of trucks lay motionless along the road. The traffic jam for the border is more than 25 kilometers, much to the delight of the militants.
Request: a trade embargo
“Every euro exchange with Russia kills Ukrainian citizens,” echoes the hastily built stage about 200 meters from the customs office. The protesters demand that the EU declare a general trade embargo against Russia. Despite the already strict sanctions, hundreds of trucks with goods still enter Russia every day.
