Six delegates of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) were arrested on Wednesday night in possession of allegedly false records, information that the party denies, alleging that they are documents related to electoral formation.
According to the Angolan news agency ANGOP, the list delegates were arrested in the Canacassala commune, Nambuangongo municipality, Bengo province, accused of trying to alter the electoral registers.
According to the president of the Provincial Electoral Board, José Pedro Jamba, the detainees were in possession of false certificates, already completed.
UNITA’s Secretary of Communication and Image, Lourenço Bento, confirmed the arrest, but told Lusa that the documents were not false acts, since they were material used in the electoral formation of the delegates.
As he explained, the training is based on materials and documents similar to the real ones.
UNITA made arrangements with the authorities of the province of Bengo to release the delegates, without success, since according to the provincial undersecretary of UNITA in Bengo, Joel Pacheco, the delegates on the list are still detained.
