Google Maps shows which clinics and hospitals perform abortions in the US

Google will now indicate on its map and search platform which clinics and hospitals allow abortions in the United States, at a time when several US states are banning the practice.

The Mountain View, California-based company explained in a statement this Thursday that these locations will specifically appear as abortion centers. when users search: “abortion clinics near me”.

The results only show the centers where Google has received confirmation that abortions are actually performed, so as not to send anyone to a place where they don’t.

If there are no clinics near the user, it is suggested to extend the search radius.

Recently released reports indicated that Google searches for places to perform abortions led users to a number of points where they received false information about the procedure, or even anti-abortion clinics.

According to the Guttmacher Institute, which campaigns for access to contraception and termination of pregnancy, 13 states have banned or severely restricted access to abortion since the US Supreme Court overturned the famous “Roe v. Wade” case.

This Thursday, a judge in North Dakota blocked the law that would have banned abortion in that northern state of the United States just a day before it goes into effect.

Judge Bruce Romanick took a stand at the abortion clinic that filed the lawsuit against the state, banning the law from taking effect while the case is resolved, arguing that “significant harm” could otherwise be caused to the plaintiffs.

The conservative states of Texas, Idaho and Tennessee on Thursday began implementing laws that almost completely ban abortion and, in some cases, impose sentences of up to life in prison for doctors who perform abortions.

The new laws don’t change the reality of these states, which have already banned abortion, but they are imposing or increasing fines and jail terms for medical teams in an effort to intimidate, according to abortion advocacy groups.

This “war” on abortion has been waged at the state level since the Supreme Court ruling in June, which has prevented more than 20.9 million women of childbearing age from having access to this procedure.
