There China approved the administration of the first Covid inhalable vaccine to the world. No more stings, so: the invited Airthis is the name of the new vaccine, it will be administered with a nebulizer as reinforcement for emergency use.

The decision was taken in the last hours of the National Administration of Medical Products.

The vaccine, produced by CanSino Biologics Inc. of Tianjin, is the inhaled version of the single dose manufactured by the same company and already administered by intramuscular injection in China, Mexico, Pakistan, Malaysia AND Hungary after being released in February 2021.

The initial vaccine made by CanSino was 66% effective in preventing the symptoms of Covid-19 and 91% against serious illness.

The inhaler, which quickly stimulates mucosal cell immunity, has a formula similar to the vaccine that is injected: it is a viral vector which uses the Adenovirus to bring into the cell the sequence of the genetic code that will produce the Coronavirus Spike protein.

According to the manufacturer, the vaccine without needle “can effectively induce full immune protection in response to SARS-CoV-2 after just one breath,” reads a press release.

Among other features of the new vaccine, CanSino highlighted that it can be transported and stored between 2 and 8 degrees centigradeunlike some injectable vaccines which require extremely low temperatures.

But the Tianjin company is not the only one to have perfected this vaccine. Among the other pharmaceutical companies that are exploring the path of inhalable vaccines, still in the research and development phase, there are also astraZeneca together with the University of Oxford.

China’s decision also comes at a delicate time regarding concerns. the emergency Covid: the cities of Shenzhen and Chengdu, for a total of 40 million people, returned to confinement after the discovery of a few dozen positive cases, which risks blocking the economy of the entire country struggling even with the worst drought in last 70 years.
