Italian journalist Mattia Sorbi, sent to Ukraine, was wounded in a shootout. There has been no news of him for a few days and according to preliminary information it appears he was shot during a shootout in Kherson. Undergoing emergency surgery, his life is not at risk: Farnesina has made it known that he is fine.

Some information was provided by a colleague of Sorbi’s who works as a freelance journalist and worked as a correspondent in Ukraine for Rai. In fact, Arndt Ginzel said in a post shared on his Facebook page that the Italian reporter would have left Mykolaiv for Oleksandrivka, a village in Kherson oblast on August 30, however causing him to lose control from that day onwards. Ginzel himself reportedly tried to contact him the next day without getting an answer, so much so that he decided to travel and reach the Ukrainian village where, however, he was unable to obtain information about Sorbi.

This morning news of his injury during a shooting. The journalist would have been rescued before being transported to a safe place as he himself reported: “Dear friends, thank you very much for your solidarity and for all the affection you are showing these days, worried about my lack of contact – let us know through a post on Facebook – I’m fine and safe, but unfortunately the communication difficulties in Ukraine have prevented me from being online as usual. It will probably be like this for a few more days, but the important thing is not to have any problems. I’m collecting a lot of stories for you tell and I will not fail to let you know!”.

From Farnesina they report that they are “in constant contact with the journalist involved in the accident: he is treated, we have positive news about his state of health, he has little coverage to communicate, but he has a free contact. We are working to bring him back , safely, to Italy as soon as possible”.
