Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah is pursuing Lech Poznan defender Wojciech Monka and is willing to break the Ekstraklasa transfer record with a bid of up to 12 million euros, according to the Polish football website weszlo.com.
Al-Qadsiah, described by the outlet as the richest club in the Saudi league, rates Monka above Ignacio Ovando of Rosario Central on its list of transfer targets. The club finished fourth in the Saudi league last season and will compete in the Asian Champions League.
Lech sporting director Tomasz Rzasa said the club wants Monka to stay for the next season to help in European qualification, but added that if an offer came in that could not be refused, the club would consider it.
The report added that after a move Monka could be immediately loaned to a top European league, or could go straight into the Al-Qadsiah starting lineup alongside Nacho Fernandez, Jehad Thakri and Gaston Alvarez in a back three. PSV Eindhoven is also among clubs that have shown interest in the defender.
Former Polish Football Association president Zbigniew Boniek said Monka was a very interesting player who would certainly have a career, though he was not yet ready to displace established Poland internationals from the senior squad. He added that the defender could be ready within six months given his rate of development.
Dariusz Dudka, assistant coach of the Polish youth national team, said Monka could have a very big career, describing his ceiling as unlimited and calling him the most talented young player in Poland.
